Project Overview
A Berlin-based health startup needed a production mobile app fast. I took it from blank repository to App Store submission in 5 weeks, working solo with an AI-assisted development workflow.
The Challenge
The client had an existing web prototype but needed a native mobile experience for both iOS and Android. Timeline was aggressive: 5 weeks from kickoff to App Store submission, with no room for a second developer.
What I Did
Built the entire app solo using React Native and Expo, with Claude as a development accelerator:
- Architecture: Designed an offline-first data model with Firebase sync, allowing the app to function reliably on poor connections
- AI-Assisted Development: Used Claude for rapid UI implementation, test generation, and documentation—not for architecture decisions
- Iterative Delivery: Shipped working builds to the client weekly, incorporating feedback in real-time
- Quality: Comprehensive error handling, accessibility support, and performance optimization throughout
Outcome
The app was submitted to the App Store on schedule and approved on the first attempt. The client launched to their initial user cohort within days of approval. The codebase is clean enough that their future team can extend it without a rewrite.
